By Jared D. Ingram

Reputation management is a fairly new entity online. But there is every sign that it is becoming better known and used more and more as a way to combat negative publicity about a business.

Information has never been as widely available as it is now on the internet. But while this fact has its advantages, it can also damage a business if some of the information available turns out to be of a detrimental nature. There are two sides of the coin here – individuals will point to their right to free speech and blog about their bad experience with a company. But if the company does not know anything about this blog post, their business can be harmed without them even realizing it.

The good news if you have a business of your own is that reputation management companies are popping up all over the internet now. They differ in the ways that they tackle negative publicity, but all of them focus on one thing. Their aim is to fight back by constructing a well thought out campaign that enables them to effectively bury any negative comments that may be out there.

But how does this work if you cannot take away the detrimental effects that caused the problems in the first place? After all you cannot get a blogger to remove a blog post – they are perfectly entitled to say what they feel.

A common method is to focus on making significant progress in the search engines. For example, if a negative news story hits the first page of results on Google, these companies will aim to displace it. This is done by releasing fresh news of a positive nature. After a concerted campaign to improve the situation and publicity, it is often the case that a reputation management company can get those positive links onto the first page of the search engine.

This means that even though the negative reports are still there, they are beyond the reach of most people who are searching via this method. Not many people go past the first page or two of results. This is why the first page is so coveted by all internet businesses.

So you can see that this type of business has a real place in today’s online world. Not only can you enlist their help to manage your online reputation, you can get them to repair a reputation that has been damaged. They can even assist in creating a good reputation in the first place. This particular service is perfect for businesses that are new to the arena and want to start off in the right way.

Reputation management businesses are growing rapidly as more and more companies have gone online. These companies have realized a direct correlation between customer comments online and their production levels.

Most shoppers these days prefer to go online to view opportunities and compare prices. It is also very common for people to view what other customers have written about the products or services of a company as their first and sometimes only opinion of the company. They use these opinions to decide whether to buy from a certain company or not.

In today’s society almost all businesses are obligated to offer website access to their products and services. Today’s fast paced world demands that businesses provide their customers with information and, if possible, ordering services online. This vast world of Internet business also provides the opportunity for previous customers to comment about the businesses good work or bad work in providing services for them.

Reputation management groups have made it their business to protect the online reputation of companies from negative feedback that might harm their production. These management groups use the most popular search engines to search out the variety of comments made about their client’s businesses. They then work with the company to consider different approaches to the comments being made.

Specific studies about reputation management have shown that most businesses just want the bad comments to go away. They are eager to higher a reputation management group to search for undesirable comments and make them unnoticeable to the general online public.

While other business choose to work with the reputation management team to confront the comments. They seek to understand why customers have left negative comments in order to better their business, if possible.

With the explosion of social media in the past few years the Internet has become a popular place to rate businesses. These positive or negative comments can have a direct affect on millions of dollars the company makes or does not make each year. Online critiques can make or break a business in the matter of a few months, weeks, or possibly days.

By C Vyas

Reputation Management is the practice of monitoring professional data about the business and industry reputation across all types of online media through consistent research and analysis over the Internet. Reputation Management is a relatively new sector in Internet Marketing and Brand Management. This sector solely depends upon the varying and unpredictable critical, journalistic, and user reviews about anything and everything relating to the business. The reviews range from strongly positive to strongly negative opinions, with all the variations in between about the business/product/person.

In the Online Reputation Management process the enterprise or the managing professional collects information from consumer-generated media through feedbacks, blog posts, comments, and other user-generated content alike. Reputation Management grows with the advent of social networking media, as this where the user-generated content about the brand spreads like wild fire. Internet Reputation Management is to keep in check the complaints of irritated customers and keep them satisfied and smiling by taking steps to put the complaints to rest.

Some suggestions to do Online Reputation Management are:

· Create official online profiles. This will help in checking the just anybodies by talking about you online and publishing the information that you actually want to be available about you.

· Check what people are saying about you online. Finding what people say about you, your business, and products across the Internet goes without saying.

· Stay consistent and constant. Checking your reputation once in a month or even lesser times could prove harmful as you don’t know what is being said around you all the time.

· Assume everything can get on the web. Stay safe and try to be a diplomat, as anything you say or do online and off it can and will end up on the Internet. Choose your words carefully while blogging or posting any comments.

· Correct your weaknesses. Everyone has some weakness. It’s just the matter of knowing them. Once they are known they can be rectified, if not then certainly hidden.

· Secure your online information. Hackers are on a constant prowl, be sure to avoid them by securing your sensitive information.

· Privatize your social networks. Maintain moderation of your social network as you will know who’s in and who is coming in.

· Be proactive and act fast. Prevention is always better than cure. So before the game goes out of hand, stay up-to-date with what is going on. So, once you see the destructive wave starting you can prepare yourselves against it.
